bailey, everywhere

I'm Bailey, a small girl from a small town. I lived a year in Kyoto and I graduated from college in Chicago in June 2010. I lived in Boston for two years but it was a wash. I'm rebuilding from the ground up. I am intent on adventures. I like beautiful things, funny things, photography, Japan, and emoticaps. (I am a vegan in progress and sometimes it happens in public. I yell most frequently about religion, racism, "women's issues," feelings, and dresses.) My friends call me Etsuko. You write it like 悦子 and it is a very good name.

on having a very sharp new mandoline slicer, which you got for Christmas

Sometimes you will be very pleased with the paper-thin carrot coins and the little broccoli-stalk matchsticks in your curried potato salad, and then you will go to run your fingers through your hair and when something catches you will realize that there is a scallop-shaped piece of your fingernail mostly off but still clinging gamely to the rest of it and, consequently, that your mandoline’s blade is so sharp that you didn’t even notice that that had happened, and that had you trimmed your nails last night like you considered doing you would be have been missing a scallop-shaped piece of finger but you wouldn’t have noticed until you had already stained the bamboo cutting board red.
